Nancy E. Clanton, PE, FIES, LC, IALD
Project Principal

Nancy E. Clanton is founder and President of Clanton & Associates, a lighting design firm specializing in sustainable design. Her firm’s lighting design projects reflect her philosophy of sustainable design, and ten of their projects have been named to the AIA Committee on the Environment Earth Day Top Ten List. Many projects for which Clanton & Associates designed the lighting are LEED platinum rated. Nancy speaks throughout the nation on topics relating to sustainable design, energy efficiency, and light pollution. 

Nancy’s accomplishments include:

  • Chairperson for the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Outdoor Environmental Lighting Committee, Mesopic Committee and joint IDA/IESNA Model Lighting Ordinance Task Force.
  • Past member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Lighting Designers.
  • Current member of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA).
  • Member of the Advisory Committee of Environmental Building News.
  • Member of the Professional Advisory Board for the Engineering Department at the University of Colorado at Boulder and on the USGBC IEQ TAG.
  • Served as Lighting Group Leader for the 2009 C40 meeting in Seoul Korea.
  • Topic editor for the 9th Edition IESNA Lighting Handbook. Her committee was responsible for the production of the IESNA Recommended Practices on Outdoor Lighting.
  • Group leader for the “Greening of the White House” initiative.
  • Received the 1999 “Contribution to the Built Environment Award” from the Colorado North Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
  • Served as a final editor for the Advanced Lighting Guidelines written by the California Energy Commission in 2001.
  • Instructor at the University of Colorado at Boulder. 

She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, Illumination Emphasis from the University of Colorado at Boulder and is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Colorado and Oregon. She is a Fellow of IESNA and Rocky Mountain Institute and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Gregg Adams, LC, IES, LEED AP, MBA  is responsible for all phases of project work at Clanton & Associates, from proposal to completion. Gregg has architectural lighting experience in aviation, commercial, and education arenas, as well as urban streetscapes, transportation, and municipal street light master planning. His residential lighting designs have received Awards of Merit  from the IESNA. 

His recent project work includes:

  • Interior and exterior lighting design for the Denver International Airport Concourse A 6-Gate West Expansion.
  • The Empire State Building Observatory (86th Floor).
  • Site lighting design at Anthem Broomfield (3500-acre residential development).
  • The Highland Bridge over I-25 (Denver, CO) and the I-25 Viaduct Replacement (Trinidad, CO) with the Colorado Department of Transportation.
  • Site lighting at Mile High Stadium (Denver, CO). 

In addition to his experience as a lighting designer, Gregg was the Midwestern Regional Manager for an outdoor lighting manufacturer and launched that company’s “dark skies” initiative. He is a recurring guest lecturer for the Interior Design program at Colorado State University and adjunct to the Interior Design department at  Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO.

 

Gregg has worked in the lighting industry since 1989 and began work with Clanton & Associates in 1997. He holds an MBA from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University. Gregg is Lighting Certified by the National Council on the Qualifications of Lighting Designers (NCQLP) and is a LEED® Accredited Professional (AP). His professional affiliations include the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

David Roederer, IES, LEED AP, has extensive training and expertise in the use of AGI software used for lighting calculations and modeling of both electric and day lighting. His broad range of experience includes working for lighting design firms in New York, Memphis, and his own in Oxford, Mississippi. David is currently working on a new Central Library for Austin, Texas, a new Veteran’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado and several area street-scape projects. Other projects include:

  • Infinity of Memphis.
  • Mercedes Benz of Memphis.
  • The Viceroy Hotel and Spa, Snowmass, Colorado.
  • Brasada Residential Complex, Bend, Oregon.
  • EnCana’s Training Facility in Denver, Colorado.
  • Lighting project manager for the USGBC Headquarters project, which received the first LEED V3 Platinum rating and exemplifies electric and day light integration in an office environment.

David's education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree/Theatrical Design emphasis: Lighting, with honors, from the University of Texas, Austin and additional training at Parsons School of Design and the Lighting Research Center. David is an active member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and has won several awards from that organization for lighting projects. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional.

Dane Sanders, PE, LEED AP, is a Principal of Clanton & Associates. Several of his projects are LEED certified, including four LEED Platinum projects. Dane is a recipient of IALD and IESNA lighting awards, and has contributed to the educational and market transformation efforts of the New Building Institute’s Advanced Lighting Guidelines (ALG Online) and the Department of Energy’s Commercial Lighting Solutions website. 

His experience includes architectural lighting, daylighting, exhibit lighting, lighting controls, planning, standards development, research, landscape lighting, streetscapes, roadway lighting, product development consulting, lighting education, and public speaking. Recent work includes notable projects such as:

  • The US Green Building Council Headquarters.
  • Denver Union Station.
  • Denver VA Medical Center.
  • Old Faithful Visitor’s Center.  

Dane has worked as a lighting designer since 2000 and began work with Clanton & Associates in 2002. Before joining Clanton & Associates, Dane’s lighting experience included three months in London, England, and two years in Sydney, Australia with projects completed in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. His interests include graphics and light as art.

 

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, with an emphasis in Illumination from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. Dane is a LEED Accredited Professional and serves as a guest expert on the LEED User website. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Colorado Illumination Engineering Program for daylighting, lighting controls, and advanced lighting design and detailing. He also speaks at lighting and energy conferences such as Greenbuild, ArchLED, and GSA Capital Construction Workshop.

Todd Givler, PE, LEED AP, has worked in the lighting design profession since 1996 and began work with Clanton & Associates in 2000. Todd’s accomplishments include:

  • Led as project manager on various designs including the Lewis & Clark Office Building (LEED Platinum) and the University of Texas, School of Nursing Building (LEED Gold).
  • Developed lighting guidelines that promote energy efficiency while maintaining security for military facilities.
  • Taught daylighting design as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Colorado at Denver in the Graduate Architecture and Planning program.
  • Worked at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in both the International and Building Systems Divisions where he authored and co-authored various technical papers on renewable energy and building efficiency.

Todd obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, Illumination Emphasis from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado and a LEED Accredited Professional. Todd’s professional affiliations include the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) US Green Building Council (USGBC), American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and Society of Building Science Educators.

Jessica Garcia has worked in the lighting design industry for three years and began working with Clanton & Associates in 2007. She has worked in conjunction with the project manager on sustainable development masterplan and lighting design standards. She has also been involved in the analysis of the street lighting demonstrations for the Cities of San Diego and San Jose 

Jessica’s professional affiliations include the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the US Green Building Council (USGBC). She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is a registered engineer in training in the state of Colorado.
