Updating technology, maintaining history

Lighting is a critical component for creating a vibrant and safe nighttime experience for pedestrians along the 16th Street Mall in Denver. Light reveals space and form and is the medium by which pedestrians experience the urban environment. Lighting can foster visibility, creating a safe and secure environment, while also enhancing the aesthetic character of the 16th Street Mall.

Clanton & Associates, along with ZGF Architects, worked with the Downtown Denver Partnership to revitalize and recreate the original lighting design intent originally developed by Howard Brandston. The lighting technology was updated to LED, improving the ease of maintenance and reducing the cost of replacement for the Downtown Denver Partnership.
