Architectural & Daylighting
Arapahoe County
Complete
Littleton, CO
In this retrofit project for the Arapahoe County Building in Littleton, Colorado, the existing linear skylight with clear glazing was creating glare and heat problems for the receptionist and security guard in the lobby.
Clanton & Associates designed a suspended shade sculpture to improve the visual quality and eliminate glare. Our design team studied the seasonal sun angles to determine the form and size of the sculpture needed to ensure year-round glare control.
The suspended curved panels have three material selections with different light transmittance characteristics. Clanton & Associates measured the light transmittance from samples of each material to ensure that the panels did not become too bright when illuminated by direct sun.
Clanton & Associates has developed street and pedestrian lighting master plans, lighting criteria, tours, pilot demonstrations, surveys, lighting measurements, and lighting research projects. Our extensive experience in creating street lighting master plans and guidelines for cities, assists our clients in making informed decisions regarding street lighting design to plan for the future of smart cities.
