Sustainable Lighting for Community Recreation.
Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, Rolland Moore Ballfields underwent a lighting transformation to replace outdated HID sports lighting with a modern system designed to reduce light pollution and enhance functionality. This update reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability and creating a better experience for players, spectators, and the surrounding community.
Clanton & Associates developed specifications for new sports lighting across four ballfields, emphasizing strict cutoffs to minimize light trespass, reduce glare, and incorporate a warmer color temperature for an improved nighttime environment. Collaborating closely with the lighting manufacturer, the team ensured these goals were met while maintaining optimal visibility for recreational and competitive play.
Dimming scenes were established to provide three preset light levels tailored to different levels of play, enhancing energy efficiency and flexibility. On-site lighting analysis performed after the installation of two fields confirmed substantial reductions in light trespass and compliance with design standards. Lighting measurements validated the improvements, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new system in balancing performance and environmental impact.
The updated lighting ensures Rolland Moore Ballfields remains a welcoming, high-quality venue for recreation while aligning with Fort Collins' goals for environmental stewardship and community well-being.
